Dr. Olu Osoba MD

Dr. Olugbemiga “Olu” Osoba is a highly experienced, board-certified psychiatrist with more than 30 years of clinical experience and over 20 years of board certification in psychiatry. In October 2024, he was appointed a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)—a distinction awarded to physicians who have demonstrated sustained excellence, leadership, and contributions to the field of child and adolescent mental health.
Dr. Osoba provides compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults through both in-person and virtual appointments. His practice is designed to offer accessible, personalized care for patients and families seeking expert guidance for complex mental health concerns. He is licensed in Georgia, Texas, South Carolina, and New Jersey, allowing patients across multiple states to access high-quality psychiatric care through secure telehealth services.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Osoba serves as Adjunct Faculty at both the Emory University School of Medicine and the Morehouse School of Medicine, where he contributes to the education and training of future psychiatrists. He also supervises fellows in child and adolescent psychiatry and teaches on topics such as childhood psychosis, eating disorders, and the transition to psychiatric fellowship training.
Dr. Osoba has held numerous leadership roles throughout his career. He previously served as Head of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, one of the nation’s leading academic health systems. Earlier in his career he was Interim Medical Director for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Sisters of Providence Health System in Massachusetts, and has also practiced at major psychiatric institutions including Georgia Regional Hospital Atlanta and Peachford Hospital.
He has particular expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of developmental and behavioral disorders in children, including ADHD, learning disabilities, and complex neurodevelopmental conditions such as Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome and Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. His clinical approach combines modern psychiatric treatment with practical behavioral strategies for families. Dr. Osoba is also a certified parenting instructor through the Love and Logic Institute, and frequently incorporates these evidence-based parenting techniques into treatment.
Dr. Osoba earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan in Nigeria, the oldest and one of the most prestigious medical schools in sub-Saharan Africa. After moving to the United States in 1998, he completed his psychiatry residency at Henry Ford Health System, one of the largest graduate medical education programs in the country. He then completed a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, consistently ranked among the top hospitals in the United States.
Throughout his career, Dr. Osoba has been recognized for his commitment to clinical excellence and mentorship. He was named “Top Doctor” by Hour Detroit Magazine in both Adult and Child Psychiatry, and received Mentor of the Year from Henry Ford Behavioral Health residents. He also participated in the Pfizer Young Investigators Training Program and completed the Henry Ford Health System Leadership Academy.
Beyond clinical care, Dr. Osoba is actively involved in national physician leadership and policy. Since 2023, he has served as a member of the AACAP Coding and Reimbursement Committee, contributing to national discussions on physician payment and behavioral health services. He has also presented at national conferences on CPT coding updates and the use of artificial intelligence in coding and reimbursement, helping physicians better understand evolving documentation and billing standards.
In January 2026, Dr. Osoba was appointed as the AACAP representative to the American Medical Association’s Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (AMA RUC), one of the most influential physician advisory bodies involved in shaping how medical services are valued and reimbursed in the United States healthcare system.
