Accepting New ClientsTaking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, but you deserve a space where you feel welcomed, understood, and supported every step of the way. Mikayla Bowden, LPC, is passionate about helping individuals and families navigate life’s challenges, discover their strengths, and work toward meaningful change in a safe, compassionate, and judgment-free environment.
Mikayla earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Queens University of Charlotte in 2019 and her Master of Science in Clinical Counseling from Charleston Southern University in 2022. Throughout her career, she has worked in a variety of settings, including substance use treatment, private practice, community health centers, agency-based services, and in-home therapy in rural communities. These experiences have shaped her commitment to meeting people where they are and making mental health care more accessible to those who need it.
Mikayla has experience working with individuals across the lifespan, from young children to older adults, and understands that every person’s story, needs, and goals are unique. She supports clients navigating trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, grief and loss, family challenges, postpartum experiences, pregnancy loss, ADHD, autism, personality disorders, and behavioral concerns. She also has experience supporting families involved in the foster care system.
Her therapeutic approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), and she has recently completed training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as she continues working toward her DBT certification. Mikayla strives to tailor her approach to each client’s individual needs, helping them build coping skills, strengthen emotional regulation, develop healthier patterns, and feel more confident navigating life’s challenges. For clients who desire it, she also offers faith-based counseling, incorporating spirituality into the therapeutic process in a way that respects each client’s beliefs and preferences.
At the heart of Mikayla’s work is her passion for ensuring that mental health care is accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances. She has a particular commitment to serving individuals and families in the Medicaid population, recognizing that everyone deserves the opportunity to receive quality, compassionate support, even when access to care has been difficult.
Mikayla believes that healing does not have to happen all at once, and you do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone. Whether you are working through a difficult season, seeking a better understanding of yourself, or looking for support for your family, she welcomes the opportunity to walk alongside you as you work toward healing, growth, and a more hopeful future.
